Fantasy Open House from Hookedonhouses.net!

When my favorite blogger, Julia at Hooked on Houses, suggested a blogesphere wide open house tour I was so excited. What a wonderful way to showcase my real estate stalking abilities!! So here is my contribution to her Fantasy Open House post.

This is not a home I would choose for myself. However, I can appreciate the modern aesthetic that is showcased in this home. Located in the upscale Memorial Park area of Houston, within the exclusive “inner loop”, this 5 bedroom 5 1/2 bath 6,715 sqft home combines elements of modern and traditional design. To let you know how exclusive this particular area is, this exact house in my part of town (very very suburban) would go for probably 1/3 of what it is listed. On with the tour!!

This is the exterior shot of the home. Very reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright. I love all the windows, especially that the already tall windows are accented with an upper window.

Here is a built in bookcase with a built in aquarium. One of the many modern elements in this home. (With a traditional staircase in the background) I would have chosen a darker stain on this shelf, I think it would have melded with the multicolored stone flooring better.

I love everything about this living room. EVERYTHING. I love the HUGE stone fireplace. I love the over sized mantle. I love the 2 display nooks. I love the pinstripe couches. Love it Love it Love it.

Another shot of the beautiful living room. I love the windows and the view out to the front porch.

Here is a shot of the Family room. More of the stone on the wall behind the staircase. Very nice bar seating off to the left. Great view through the house to the front door.

This is the bar area off of the Family room. I’d kill for a bar area this size (and this stocked!!) Another more modern element in this home.

Here is the dining room. Once again, lovely windows and views. Access to the kitchen and living room.

Speaking of the Kitchen…. WOW. Love everything about this room too. This is obviously one of the more modern elements of this home. The flooring choices in this house are wonderful. What a great island. Lots of space for eating or preparing food. And, once again, great over sized windows with french doors out to the back yard.

Another view of the kitchen. Great views out to the front yard as well. Take a look at that restaurant sized fridge! Swoon! They have tons of cabinet space as well. I’d love this kitchen if I had it.

On to the incredible game room. What a great way to nestle the game table! Some more of that great stone flooring.

This is a more traditional space. Love the balcony off the master (we have one, wouldn’t live without it!) Great wood floors and natural light. I’d switch out the fan for something more traditional though.

A traditional Master with a Modern Bath. Love the floor and the black tub. I’m not crazy about that house right out the window! Eeeep! Oh, and fans in bathrooms are a thing down here. It seems every house we looked at had a ceiling fan in the bathroom. weird.

One of the spare bedrooms aka the nursery. Love it as much as the master. Great views in this room too!

This is too modern for me. I like the look of this sink but not in this space. And a word of wisdom kids: wood floors in a bathroom might look great. DON’T DO IT. Our wood floors were ruined very quickly by a sweating toilet. Stick to tile… trust me.

Now this is what I’m talking about. What a great patio space. Very smart of them to continue the stone flooring out to the patio. Makes it feel more like an extension of the home. And that little portable heater is ridiculous… its Houston people! It doesn’t get that cold (says the girl from snow country) The fireplace is ok though. It looks nicer than that heater.

Beautiful, no? I love this house for many reasons. I love that this house can be traditional or modern or both to whomever buys it. So what did you think?? worth the price tag? oh wait, I haven’t told you yet… its on the market for $3.8 million and even though this home is beautiful, its mostly about location.

I’m so glad you showed us something different from the other houses we’ve toured today. It’s fun to see some variety. The pictures are great, too.

Like you, this may not be the house that would work for my family, but I loved looking at it! It is very reminiscent of FL Wright, isn’t it? It would be so wonderful to have a big game room like that (I guess I have a game room, but we call it “the basement”–ha).

Something I’ve always wanted was a balcony or porch off my master bedroom. How nice! I’m also digging the stone fireplace, the big windows, and the kitchen.

Great post! Thanks so much for joining the blog party! -Julia 🙂

Like you and Julia, this is not a home I would choose for myself, but I really did enjoy looking. The rooms were HUGE and beautiful. Thank you for sharing it 🙂

You know, when I started looking at the pictures, I got really excited-maybe this home would have some really cool green features. I guess I agree that this wouldn’t be the home for me, either. I saw so many opportunities for going green, but instead I saw leather couches and gobs of trees.

Your writing really won me over. Just be glad you didn’t have a bathroom with a carpet floor–could you imagine? Thanks for sharing this house. You had me laughing in the first sentences.

The windows in this house are amazing! I do think I’d have to have some curtains up in the bedroom, though- it’d be hard for me to sleep without them.
Thanks for showing us this lovely home! 🙂

I love the outdoor patio. It’s so spacious. The Memorial Dr. area in Houston is very nice with all the towering old trees. I’m glad to finally see the inside of one of the homes. KV

I’m an old home kind of gal, but I have to say I do love Wright’s design aesthetic and this home certainly has it. The inside is more traditional than I expected it to be, and I love it! And I have to say, I loooovvveeee the way the home looks from the back by the pool. I guess, in short, I could be very comfortable here. 🙂

    Thanks for the tour!

One of the great things about seeing all sorts of homes is getting inspiration for all sorts of things. This home had some wonderful elements that can be incorporated in other ways and styles. Thanks for the tour.
