Second Hand Steals

This weekend was our community wide garage sale. Tyler and I woke up early on Saturday ready to find some deals. And boy did we! I was disappointed early when a solid wood bench was sold as we walked up to the first sale. We moved on quickly and found 2 really great garage sales right next to each other. Like any good bargain hunters, we divided and conquered.

At the first sale, I found a 4 1/2 foot pre-lit Christmas tree for $5!! I’ve been wanting a small Christmas tree for the office and you can’t beat $5!

Across the street, Tyler spotted the lamp I’ve been wanting for the office. Another $5 steal!

When I walked across the street to join my husband, I was stopped in my tracks and rendered breathless. I saw the perfect china hutch for my dining room. Tyler wasn’t so sure (it needs work) but I finally convinced him that $45 was a great deal for a solid wood 1/2 way refinished hutch. So without further ado, my garage sale pride and joy:
It needs a new pane of glass for the door, the door needs to be attached, it needs to be cleaned and it needs new knobs. I don’t care how much work it requires….. I LOVE IT!!

Ok, moving on. At the next sale, the homeowner was just starting to put items on the driveway. I saw a little vanity/desk that would be perfect for one of our guest rooms. It was only marked at $15 but I offered $10 (mainly because it needs paint and new hardware) He took it!!!

After this sale, Tyler was called out the the oil rig. So I took a little break and dropped him off at the office. When I came back, it was still early enough so my friend Allison agreed to join me for the rest of the day.

The first sale we hit was just ok. As we were getting in the truck, Allison spotted the woman carying a barstool out to the driveway. We agreed that if she had more than 2 stools, we would get out of the truck. Sure enough she had 3, and $20 later I have 3 great barstools!!
At the next sale, Allison got brand new Bose ear buds for $35! I snagged these beautiful glass canisters for just 3 bucks.
After a long day of walking and haggling, Allison and I were ready to call it a day. But on our way home I spotted a little director’s chair. The fabric needs to be washed, but it will look adorable in our blue and khaki (nautical) guest room and for only $1 I had to stop and snatch it up!
So all in all, a very successful sopping excursion! The community to the south of us is having their community garage sale in 2 weeks. I’m still on the hunt for a great dining room table. Here’s hoping!!
